  • UPMC job fair draws thousands

    A job fair to fill 400 positions at a new 156-bed hospital in Monroeville drew an estimated 2,700 people on Thursday, officials said.

    The University of Pittsburgh Medical Center held the job fair at the Monroeville Convention Center to fill positions at UPMC East, the hospital network’s newest facility, which is scheduled to open in July.

    UPMC officials were surprised by the turnout.

  • The University of Central Florida board of trustees approved the purchase of 25 acres in Lake Nona for a future teaching hospital on Jan. 26.

    According to documents, the closing date would be Jan. 30. Under the terms of the deal, UCF would:

    • Pay $15.1 million for the land.

    • Have rights to develop 253,000 square feet of hospital space.

    • Have the right to develop 115,000 square feet of clinic space.

    • Have the option to buy an additional 13 plus acres until Jan. 16, 2017, at a cost of $600,000 per acre of market value…

  • James Conforti, chief executive officer at Sutter’s Memorial Medical Center in Modesto, has been named regional president for the Sutter Health Sacramento Sierra Region, health system officials announced Thursday.

    He replaces Sarah Krevans, who became chief operating officer for the entire health system on Jan. 1.

    Conforti, 49, will start his new job March 1. He will oversee hospitals, doctors’ offices and outpatient centers throughout nine Northern California counties, including Sacramento, Placer and Yolo…

  • S.E.A. Medical Systems Inc. said Wednesday it raised $3 million in Series B funds.

    The Santa Clara-based private health tech company specializes in safety and management of IV medicine.

    The funds came from Chicago-based venture capital firm JK&B Capital, which invests in information technologies, health care and communications.

    The chairman of JK&B Capital, David Kronfeld, and Quantum Technology Partners’ Barry Dickman also joined S.E.A. Medical’s board of directors.

    S.E.A. plans to use the funds “to accelerate development of its IV products and expand its technology into additional medical applications…

  • UC Davis medical students will open a new health clinic Sunday in Knight’s Landing to provide free care to underserved residents in rural Yolo County.

    The clinic will be open every third Sunday of the month. It will be staffed by medical students and undergraduates, along with volunteer doctors, nurses and graduate students in public health.

    Knights Landing hasn’t had a local medical clinic since Davis-based CommuniCare Health Centers pulled out in 2008. The clinic was losing more than $10,00 a month at the time, because of a drop in use and high numbers of people without insurance…

  • Temple University Hospital has reactivated its heart, lung, and heart/lung transplant programs, effective immediately.

    The reactivation follows the hospital’s receipt of interim approval, from the United Network of Organ Sharing, to reactive the programs.

  • Harrison Street Real Estate Capital LLC (HSRE), which has entered into a joint venture with Montecito Medical Acquisition Co. (MMAC), has acquired the nearly 59,000-square-foot Baptist Westover Hills Medical Office Building.
